My Latest Obsession: Vegan Bulletproof Coffee
Is it really bulletproof if it doesn't have the grass fed butter? Some would recoil in shock with my cacao butter substitute, but as far as I'm concerned, my plantbased butter version does the trick. So what exactly is Bulletproof Coffee? Bulletproof is the brand, kind of in the same way that Bikram is a brand of yoga. Branded Bulletproof Coffee is coffee, Brain Octane, and Grass Fed Butter. The Bulletproof product that I'm adding to my coffee is the XCT Oil (an upgraded medium chain triglyceride) known as Brain Octane, which is touted as having several benefits including improving cognitive function and weight management. I also happen to think it makes my skin and hair nice and soft. To learn more about XCT & MCT oils, and Brain Octane click here. While I am a sucker for branding and do reach for the Bulletproof Brain Octane instinctively, I've used the Nutiva brand of MCT oil a couple of times now, it's good, and lower in price than the former. To veganize my Bulletproof coffee I'm adding a raw cacao butter like this one, which tastes delicious and is considered to be anti-inflammatory and an anti-oxidant, and moisturizes my lips as I sip (which is helpful given the sub zero temperatures we are currently enduring!). I brew a good quality coffee like Chocosol in my french press, and then add a sprinkle of cacao butter pieces, about 1 TBS of Brain Octane and the coffee to my blender, and mix for a few seconds. The result is a creamy, dairy-free, full-of-good-fats-coffee that gets my brain and my body moving. Like I said, #obsessed.
