How To Keep A Healthy Smile
It's funny, I am a super healthy person when it comes to most things, but for some reason an irrational fear of the dentist had me put off a visit until just this week. I'll tell you the honest truth, I had let some time lapse in between checkups and I was pretty much just embarrassed at the possibility of not having a perfect set of pearly whites, and I was worried that I would be scolded for my negligence. Let me be clear, I am far from forgetful when it comes to daily oral hygiene, (I'm the one with travel brush and floss on hand in airports and on set), but actual dentist visits I had fallen a little behind on. Can you guess what didn't happen at my checkup? I DIDN'T get scolded, and essentially there was NOTHING wrong with my teeth! I cannot begin to tell you how relieved I am, and how foolish I feel for having unnecessarily put off this visit for so long. One thing my kind dentist Dr. Hatamian did tell me was that regular checkups are important (ok I kind of knew that!), because it means if there does happen to be anything that needs fixing, it will be caught before it becomes a bigger problem. Makes sense right? One tip I picked up from my little one's first visit to the dentist was to brush after sugary snacks, how did I forget about this?! We've had a lot of birthdays lately, and I'm going to try to remember to brush after I savour every last bite of my next delicious cupcake. Essentially oral hygiene is just like everything else that we prioritize to keep ourselves healthy. We go to the gym and get haircuts regularly, having our teeth cleaned and checked is even more important, and the feeling of being on top of your health is pretty awesome too!
