Vegan Eats On-The-Road: Toronto to Ottawa via Kingston

Vegan Eats On-The-Road: Toronto to Ottawa via Kingston

I love adventures of any kind and am a particular fan of road trips, but finding healthy, vegan eats while on the go can often be a challenge.  Boy do I get excited when I discover grab 'n go's and easy eateries that sell the goodies I need to stay fueled while I travel, and this past weekend's adventures from Toronto to Ottawa led me to some super yummy spots!

Coffee Public in Port Hope was our first stop, and a vegan, gluten-free muffin and soy latte did not disappoint.  Worth noting, this trendy coffee spot sells Loop juices (which use un-pretty produce to combat food waste) and also keeps the washroom stocked with green diapers in a variety of sizes.  Very eco, community-minded vibe, and absolutely worth a visit.

Next up was Kingston which has recently upped it's veg game with the addition of a Copper Branch (if you haven't tried this joint you need to get ON IT asap, cuz the shitake mushroom general tsao is out of this world!).  This location is a grab n go with some nice seating; delish plant-based meals are ready fast and taste amazing!  Kingston also has a burger joint called Harpers Burger Bar that serves a nice portobello mushroom cap (I totally suggest upgrading your side to a superfood salad!), and has kombucha on tap, and a couple of juice bars, Simply Well, and Juice Kik, that I'll be checking out next visit!  Kingston also has a couple of great shops to stock up on healthy road snacks; longtime resident Tara Natural Foods, and just-opened The Grocery Basket.

Destination Ottawa made me very happy with several visits to Pure Kitchen, with it's gorgeous design, ample seating, and efficient takeout counter with coffee bar.  Vegan Bullet Proof was perfect, as was a stuffed avocado appetizer, and green smoothie.  I inhaled a tempeh BLT and washed it down with a locally brewed kombucha on our first night and can't wait to go back for more goodies.  Although we didn't make it this trip, I am told that The Grand does drool-worthy pizzas including gluten-free and vegan versions.
