Wellness In Winter; I Found A New Way To Relax And Enjoy The Cold...
Most of us Canadians have done the run to the hot tub through the snow thing at least once in our lives, but when I heard about Nordik Spa-Nature, I wondered would spending a whole afternoon outside in sub zero temps be relaxing, or just really, really cold?
Based on my experience with the aforementioned initial activity I guessed there would be some fun involved, so I booked an afternoon at this outdoor getaway to enjoy their Thermal Experience, which involves a repeated rotation through various stations of warmth, cold, and relaxation.
I’ll admit I was slightly squeamish about running around in a bathing suit in the snow, but once I donned the fluffy robe and flip flops I was ready to go.
Nordik Spa-Nature in Chelsea Quebec is one of 3 locations (another in Winnipeg, and the third set to open this year in Whitby). The design is gorgeous, and as you would expect by the name very authentically nordic. The grounds are spacious and the offerings are truly delightful, ranging from a eucalyptus steam room, warm yurts, relaxation beds with meditative music piped in over headphones, to saunas, muskoka chairs and fire pits, a deliciously warm infinity pool, a hot tub and more.
The concept is simple enough, connect with nature while enjoying the benefits of Thermotherapy, with Nordik’s Thermal Cycle, a relaxation ritual based on a 2000-year-old tradition founded in Nordic countries.
Other spa services are available at an additional cost, while the Thermal Cycle is very reasonably priced at $68 +tx (add $12 for a bathrobe rental and either bring your own flip flops or purchase at reception).
There are restaurants on site, and the pool is licensed; you can absolutely enjoy a stunning view of snow capped peaks, while you lounge in the warm water, beverage in hand. Pretty decadent stuff.
I left feeling peaceful and relaxed and would absolutely go back at any season (they are open year round) for more wellness in nature, but am adding this in particular to my list of favourite winter activities!
